Ayurveda emerged from the sacred texts of ancient India and is commonly thought of as Yoga's sister science. It is the practice of observing the elements of nature around and within us, and maintaining or restoring health by balancing those elements.
Each of us was born with a unique constitutional make-up of these elements that through-out the course of our life can swing in and out of balance. Learning to understand your constitutional tendencies can help you to support yourself to regain, create or maintain long, healthy, well-balanced lives.
This workshop will introduce you to the following concepts in Ayurveda:
The origins of Ayurveda and the sacred philosophy behind it
Ayurveda & Yoga as sister sciences
Ayurveda as a holistic approach to health
Purusharta - desires of the soul
Elemental & Essential Nature - the body vs the Self
Prakruti & Vikruti - our balanced vs current state
Gunas - qualities to bring balance
(The workshop will not address or prescribe remedies for acute ailments, or deal extensively with the use of herbs.)
