Movement as Self-Compassion: Nia and the Body’s Way

  • Tula Yoga & Wellness 99 Snelling Avenue North Saint Paul, MN, 55104 United States (map)

Taught by Beth Giles | 6-week class series on Tuesdays Feb 28- Apr 4, 9:30 am-10:45 am | $18 to drop in

Taking inspiration from Brene Brown’s book The Gifts of Imperfection and Kristin Neff’s Fierce Self-Compassion, we’ll move and dance to help us bring peace and love to ourselves and build more self-compassion both on and off the dance floor. Nia is a practice for moving our bodies, our NOW bodies, in our own ways. Learning to celebrate and love our bodies is part of the Nia philosophy and shows up in the ways we use levels of intensity and planes of movement in class.

Nia combines dance, martial arts and healing arts to create a mindful fitness practice until any other. Our dance moves energy through our bodies, inviting us to sense joy, and healing our minds, bodies and spirits. We dance in bare feet (shoes are optional) to soulful music using the 52 moves of Nia that engage the whole body and the mind, emotions and spirit too. We dance Nia to build body awareness, strengthen and condition, express ourselves and have fun. No prior experience is necessary. For all levels of fitness.
